Barbara Jean's, Cookbooks, St. Simons Island

Barbara Jean’s

Many of you know that Chris is from St. Simons Island, GA. The first time I visited his family, we went to a great restaurant, called Delaney’s. When Chris and I were engaged, this is the restaurant we went to to celebrate. Delaney’s is fabulous, and probably ranks up there as one of my top 20 favorite restaurants. But it’s more along the lines of elegant dining. I appreciate elegant dining, but every now and then, you just want something good and satisfying – comfort food.

The third time I visited SSI with Chris, it was for Thanksgiving, Matt & Miller Dart’s wedding, and our wedding shower all rolled up into 5 days. Lots of activity! This was also the first time that I had Barbara Jean’s. We stopped by there the day before Thanksgiving to pick up some food that my MIL had ordered, and the whole car ride home I was practically drooling! What was in those foil covered dishes?

When we went to visit his family over last weekend, I got to thinking again about Barbara Jean’s, and decided to do a search online. I found their website pretty easily, then was excited to see that, in addition to being able to special order their crab cakes, she-crab soup, pumpkin bread, and chocolate stuff, they had a cookbook (actually, their second cookbook).

I decided then and there to order it, and it arrived this morning. While perusing the pages, I came across several fantastic-looking dishes. Some that I’m already wanting to try: baby zucchini appetizers, squash casserole, and chocolate bread pudding. The last thing I’ll probably make, then send off with Chris to the office. I do that whenever I want to make something, but don’t want to be tempted to eat it! Unfortunately, the crab cakes aren’t in the cookbook, but I knew that before I ordered it. Apparently, they’re a trade secret 🙁
