Learning the Language

Since moving to Massachusetts, I’ve picked up on some of the local names for things.  I already knew about some of them, but not all.  Here’s my brief guide to understanding Massachusetts words:

Bubbler = Water/Drinking Fountain
Carriage = Shopping Cart
Elastics = Rubber Bands
Johnnies = Patient/Hospital Gowns

I’m sure that there’s more out there that I’ll pick up along the way.  And just in case Massachusetts feels picked on, let me share a weird Georgia phrase:

Flick Off = Flip Off

Chris and I still argue about which one of those is correct : – )
