Running to Shop… Shopping to Run

Guess what we bought?

Say hello to my new treadmill!

I had a used ProForm treadmill that I bought off Craigslist 2 years ago.  I told Chris that if he “let” me buy it, I would use it faithfully.  I ran on it all the time, and not once did I fall into that statistic of “people are more likely to use their exercise equipment as a clothes-hanger than an exercise machine”.

We went back and forth about shipping it to New Zealand.  It probably had 2 more years left in it, at the most, and if we shipped it over here we’d need to purchase a separate transformer to handle the voltage.  We ultimately decided to sell it to a coworker and buy a new one here.  I did my research and found that while there are US treadmill brands in NZ, namely Nordic Track and ProForm, the only thing “American” about them is the motor.  We found a non-brand treadmill that has roughly the same specs as the Nordic Track {and some bonus features that the Nordic Track didn’t have} and has an American-made motor.  It was $1,000 less than the name-brand treadmill and comes with a good warranty, so that’s what we bought.  Another nice feature is that the motor has double the horse-power as the high-end Nordic Track version.

Whoa, Nelly!  Now we’re talking!

It should be here by tomorrow.  I’ve missed being able to run on a treadmill, and while I’ve been doing a lot of walking and the occasional P90X, it’s definitely time to step up the fitness routine.

  1. YAY for you!!! So fun! I would love to have a treadmill at home; even though I loathe the treadmill…i feel so much better afterwards!

  2. I’ve always wanted a treadmill… I hate running on them at the gym, but I think I would use it at home if I could pick a show or two on TIVO and then just run, run, run… I love to run outside… but that doesn’t always work with the Texas heat, and now that we’re moving to california and I don’t know the area really well I’m nervous about running around new neighborhoods… perhaps I’ll buy a treadmill for my mental health once school starts!

  3. I’m glad you got your treadmill! I know how awful it is to be unable to run (for one reason or another!), so what a relief for you! Run, Forest, run!!
