Scrubs and Shoes

I’ve written about my love of scrubs before, but that was before I signed up to work at a hospital where part of the dress code is wearing all white.  I hate wearing all white scrubs.  Thankfully, there is some leeway – I can also wear all royal blue or mix-and-match a white top with a royal blue bottom or vice versa.  Still, that’s not much variety.  And like I said, I hate wearing all white scrubs.

Because of this new dress code, I’ve decided to get rid of all of my old scrubs on eBay.  Today I’ll be taking pictures, writing descriptions, and posting them online.  The only scrubs that I won’t be selling are my Purdue and South Carolina ones.  I really like those and it took awhile for them to get here.  There’s also a slim chance that I might be able to wear them in New Zealand, depending on hospital dress codes over there.  I’m willing to part with the others, but I want to hang on to those two sets.

Another thing that I really don’t like is all white shoes.  That’s another dress code requirement – either all white shoes, all royal blue shoes, or all black shoes.  I have a pair of black clogs that I wore all the time at my last hospital, but I just know that I’m going to have to get some white ones.  Any suggestions there?  I don’t like the Dansko shoes (realized that after spending over $100 on a pair when “everyone” told me that they were “the best” – um, no, they’re not!).  I’ve even sunk so low as to consider… dare I say it?  Crocs.  Ugh.  I hate Crocs, but I don’t want to shell out a bunch of money, and I’ve heard that they’re really comfortable.  What do you guys think?  They really would need to be comfortable – we’re talking 12 hours on my feet, here.  Any suggestions?

  1. wow
i am an rn also and the only hospital i worked for that was that strict about dress code was a catholic one. as for shoes, the nursemates are comfortable, I used to have a pair of their clogs I loved. good luck

  2. ARE YOU SERIOUS??? WHITE? Are you sure it is not some cruel joke? Well, that is one hospital I could never work at, all my scrubs would be stained with whatever I had for lunch! The royal blue is not that bad, but it the idea of white pants that irks me! But I do like the professionalism that goes along with a serious dress code! Good luck!

  3. I LOVE SCRUBS!!!!! And I am so happy that I am in a profession where scrubs are not only expected, but are required! Woohoo! I actually just got 4 new pairs of pants in the mail today. 🙂

  4. I wouldn’t like wearing all white either… ick!

There are some cute (kinda) Crocs. My only warning is that your feet will SWEAT LIKE CRAZY. So wear good socks. 🙂

  5. Well, pretty much all of my shoes are unfomfortable (lol), but I have heard that Crocs are comfortable. And though I’ve posted about them quite a lot, I always said that I think they’d be great for working in a hospital, doctor’s office, or a vet’s office!

  6. I agree with Jordan, crocs are the best! However I have to make sure I buy mine in the summer and leave them outside in the sun for a day so they shrink some. I wouldn’t like that dresscode at all but I would much rather wear scrubs than my casual dress clothes everyday. Yucko.

  7. All white? That just seems too sterile and kind of depressing. At least you can wear royal blue.

Crocs! I used to hate them too but I love them. They are the most comfortable shoes ever. Seriously! Try them = )
