The Best Scary Movies

When it comes to scary movies, I go through phases – sometimes, I absolutely will not watch them under pain of death, and there are other times when I’m really in the mood for a good scare!  Since Halloween is just around the corner, I thought I’d share my list of favorite scary movies, in no particular order.  Please leave me a comment and let me know some of your favorites, too!

1. Scream

2. The Ring

3. Friday the 13th

4. Nightmare on Elm Street

5. The Sixth Sense (I know, I know, but it really scared me the first time I saw it!)

6. The Exorcist

7. The Shining

8. Carrie

9. Texas Chainsaw Massacre (newer version)

10. The Omen

11. The Amityville Horror (newer version)

12. The Messengers

13. Halloween

I know that I’m leaving some out, but those are the ones that stick out the most in my mind!  You could probably add  just about any Alfred Hitchcock movie, and I’d be okay with that, too.

So tell me, what are your favorite scary movies?

  1. I don’t think I’ve ever seen the Scream movies, how crazy is that! (Coz i like scary movies/thrillers :)) The Ring was definitely pretty freaky. 1409 also freaked me & my bro out when we were watching it at the movies. I saw Texas Chainsaw Massacre the newer one several years ago and didn’t find it scary at all – just full of gore. Only jumped in one part near the end.

  2. I love Dial M for Murder!

And, I watched haunting in connecticut this weekend. Scared the absolute crap out of me. I yelled. Twice. And then I called my mom. It was bad.

The Exorcist … well, I’m going to a post on that later this week!

  3. Wow! Ya’ll are braver than me, I hate scary movies. I have nightmares even looking at the movie posters and covers of scary movies… I have been known to get up and leave the theatre and come back in once the movie starts, just to avoid watching a scary movie trailer….

They just stick with me and spook me out…

Sixth Sense is about as spooky as I can get, I watched that movie years ago and I still get freaked out by some of the parts (like when the little girl ghost is under the bed).

  4. Any of the Saw movies! My husband took me to see Saw 2 on our second date, and I went into it not knowing anything about the movies. I was FREAKED RIGHT OUT. I think they are scary not only because of the crazy gore factor, but also because of all of the mind games that go on. They’re awesome, though!

I’m scared to death to go see that new one, Paranormal Activity. One of my friends saw it and she said it made her cry and later throw up! No thank you!
