FDA Approval of "Plan B" for 17 Year Olds

So I was reading in my ANA News Brief today about the FDA approving the over-the-counter sale of “Plan B” to 17 year olds.  What are your thoughts about this?

  1. Alright, I’ll say it. This would have really made me feel a lot better when I was 17. I had one scare when I was that age and I was terrified. I think it’s so much better to give girls the option to try and prevent pregnancy than them going and doing something that could hurt them.

  2. I have no problem with this. The fact of the matter is is that 17-year-olds have sex. And do we want those 17-year-olds having babies? NO. The more birth control options the better, and the more accessible the better.

  3. I'm not sure how I feel about it… I just see the world getting more & more corrupt at a younger & younger age….

  4. Why should age matter? I think its really sad that a 17 year old would need it … but it should be an option to everyone, regardless of age.

This was basically the SOLE question in one of my medical school interviews. It had all kinds of follow up questions … does it matter if she had sex with her boyfriend? Her father? Raped? How do you make the decision who gets it and who doesn’t?

  5. In my opinion, 17 year olds shouldn’t even know what Plan B is….but those times are long gone.

I’m a Purdue grad, too! BOILER UP!
